Stronghold Házmburk

According to available sources of information, a local hill was exploited as a refuge and a barrier fort as far back as 4100 years before Christ. On the hill near the village Klapý we can find ruins of stately stronghold, which was founded probably during of 14th century.

Museum Zkamenělý les, Louny

The collection, which is dating from the year 1962, includes exhibits ever since Primary until Tertiary. We can see here exhibits having a weight a few kilograms up to half tonne. This collection shows only fossils of plants. There are approximately installed 300 exhibits and also here are whole trunks or fruits of olden trees.

Monument Terezín

The beginning history of Terezín is from the end of 18th century. At that time was built here a fortress, which was named in honour of empress Marie Terezie. The fortress has as one’s task, to defend the Czech territory against all risks incoming from north.

Castle Duchcov

Originally as a fortress, later was rebuilt on Renaissance building, and then was extended as a baroque round the year 1700. The church was linked to castle at that time.

Castle Libochovice

Architect Antoni Porta from Italy in a baroque style built the castle in 17th century. Painting of roof plate is work of Italian painter Maruetti. Sala terrena is also valuable. At the end of 17th century was founded a park near castle, which consists from French garden and English park.

Gallery Špejchar, Chomutov

The Gallery is situated in the building of Jesuitical hall, founded in the year 1591. There was placed there a first hall’s church, until the church of St. Ignác was built. After it the building served as a great dinning room and a theatre hall. Later, when the Jesuitical friary was disturbed, the building was used as a warehouse.

Kadaň

It is often mentioned that it was the Celts who established the first settlement with the name of Kadaň (Kad – an) – „radiant by the fire“ – where dutiny the 6th century AD the Slavonic population came to the region surrounding the river Ohře. It is worth mentioning the moutain Úhošť which towers above town majestically.
